Retessera Back to the game

Privacy policy

Effective 28 October 2026

Retessera is a free art puzzle, on the web at retessera.art and as an Android app. It is made by Peter Szaraz. It is built to collect as little as possible: there are no ads, no analytics, no tracking cookies, and you never need to give your name, email address or phone number to play.

What stays on your device

The game remembers a few things in your browser's storage, or in the app's storage on Android, so you can carry on where you left off:

Clearing the site's data or uninstalling the app removes all of this.

What is sent to Retessera

Only if you choose a nickname for the daily leaderboard:

DataWhyWho can see it
NicknameTo show your score on the leaderboardEveryone who views the leaderboard
Recovery code (stored only in scrambled form)So only you can post scores under your nicknameNo one. It can't be read back, even by us.
Daily results: date, level, moves, time, hints used and scoreTo rank today's leaderboardLevel and score appear on the leaderboard

Please don't use your real full name, or other personal details, as a nickname. Nicknames aren't linked to an email address, phone number, or device ID.

Messages you send us

The Contact form sends your message, and the name you type, to the developer by email. It goes through Web3Forms, a form delivery service. Messages are used only to reply to you and to improve the game.

Services the game relies on

We don't sell or share your data for advertising, and nobody else gets it.

Deleting your nickname and scores

You can delete your nickname and every score posted under it, at any time, from inside the game:

The deletion is immediate and permanent. If your nickname is no longer on your device, first enter it with its recovery code ("I already have a nickname") on any phone or computer, then delete it as above. If you've lost the recovery code, write to us with your nickname and roughly when you last played, and we'll remove it within 30 days.

How long data is kept

Nicknames and scores are kept until you delete them, so past leaderboards remain accurate. Contact messages are kept in the developer's email for as long as needed to reply.

Children

Retessera is a general audience game and doesn't ask for anyone's age. Choosing a nickname is optional. Children can play without one, and we ask parents to help younger players pick a nickname that doesn't reveal who they are.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, the new version will appear on this page with a new date. Questions or requests: use the Contact form in the game.
